Synesthesia: a perceptual phenomenom in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway - Wikipedia
Rich, vibrant artworks reflect the way Tracey Roberts synesthetically interprets colours of the sounds of music and musical instruments, both figuratively and in abstracted form. She also explores the emotional reactions people have to music and the music industry, how music affects us all on a cellular level, the decay of musical instruments as a metaphor for life, as well as the relationship music has to elements within natural or cosmic landscapes.
Tracey’s work is distinctively renowned for her sensuous, musical themes using strong, saturated colours and the "energy" shapes representing her synesthesia, which she calls "crystalism". The 3-D effect people often remark upon occurs because the artwork reflects a synesthetic "head space" or atmosphere.
This exhibition invites you to experience music in a visual context and to gain a glimpse into the mind of a music-colour synesthete – to "see what you hear" and to "hear what you see."
